The Happening

Filed under: Movies — Scott @ 9:50 am

I have not watched this myself, but if last night’s audience was any indication… This movie sucks! I thought I was going to have a riot on my hands. *sheesh*

We’re Sorry

After the 56th time of hearing, “You’re call is important to us. We know your time is valuable” by a recording in three different voices, I wonder if it is really sincere…

Thanks Qwest! (By the way this is a business account!! We are supposed to have priority service!!)

It was a bird and it was black

Filed under: WhAt?!?!? — Scott @ 4:55 pm

Did you enjoy the silence?

Anyway, you know where this is going by the title of the post…

Sunday night while cooking in the kitchen, I thought I was hearing a noise. I didn’t know what it was and I couldn’t stop cooking just to hear the noise. Anyway, I finished and went into the living room to watch some television while eating. After a while, I heard the noise again and then a FLOP sound. I turned to the fireplace. A bird. I didn’t know what to do, but I wanted it to leave my house alive. I went to get some gloves and a large towel. (I really don’t know what I was thinking, but whatever.) I opened the doors of the fireplace a little bit expecting the bird to come flying out. No bird. What? I started looking around brushing my hand around and couldn’t come up with anything at all. I closed up the doors again, and finished my meal. I never heard the noise again that night.

The next morning I had to be to work at 7 in the morning. I was there until 9 at night. When I got home, I turned on the living room light and immediately noticed that a large candle holder was on the floor as well as a can of hairspray. LIGHTBULB! I looked at the fireplace. The door was open. Great. I have a bird flying around my house. Who knows how long? I start turning on the lights everywhere.

Kitchen - My “I’m Not Martha Stewart… ADJUST!” sign is in the sink. (How appropriate.) But nothing else seemed out of place.

Dining Room - Nothing was messed with.

Living Room - Business cards that were on a ledge were knocked off. Shelf had bird crap on it. Candle holder on floor and can of hairspray. Bird crap run down streaks on two dark blue curtains.

Stairway - Nothing, but then nothing really to mess with either.

Computer Room - OMG. I’m never stacking anything again. CDs on the floor. DVDs on the floor. All my bills knocked over. The bird must not care for Tyra Banks because there’s bird crap on an entertainment weekly with her on the cover.

Bathroom - Bird crap on the floor.

Spare Bedroom - Didn’t even look as the door was closed.

Master Bedroom - Bottle of water that had water in it (lucky it was capped) on the floor. Blinds all screwed up. Bird crap on my comforter. (That’s not comforting.) There are DVDs on the floor, but that’s because I was playing DDR and I kind of shake the house when I jump.

At this point I think the bird either got out or died and I just need to find the corpse. Then I hear a flapping noise coming from the bathroom. There’s a cabinet door that’s open because I put my reading materials in there. (Like you don’t read on the throne.) I’m assuming that’s where the bird is I slowly approach when I see it on the cabinet out of the corner of my eye. I quickly open the bathroom window… throw up the screen… throw up the glass and there it is… the outside. “Okay, birdie, go outside.” The bird flies in the opposite direction going to my computer room instead. First thing’s first, I close the master bedroom door. If I don’t get this thing out of my house, I’ll at least sleep in peace.

Back to the computer room, this lasted for 45 minutes. The bird flew and landed all over the place. Crapped on the floor, but the best thing was the ceiling fan. I wished I felt I could’ve got my digital camera to take some video of it. The bird landed on a blade and it started to spin, but apparently the bird wanted THAT spot so he kept hopping from blade to blade making it spin faster. By the end of the computer room visit the bird figured out how to make it stop spinning by leaning back. It was kind of cool.

By the way, I’m constantly saying, “Birdie this way… Birdie let’s go outside… You know you want to!”

I thought if I had something for the bird to land on, I could put it out the window and it would fly away. I went downstairs and grabbed a rolled up poster. I came back to the computer room and couldn’t find the bird anywhere. Found him in the bathroom again on its perch. I set my poster by it, but it never would get on. I shut the bathroom door. The bird would fly around the room landing on the shower rod, the top of the cabinet and the light fixtures.

Finally, I slammed the poster down on the window ledge and said, “You’re landing everywhere else. Why not land here? It’s perfect!” I swear the bird looked at me and tilted its head. Then flew to the ledge. I held my breath. Then it flew out the window.  I quickly shut the window up again and took a breather on the toilet. I spent the next hour cleaning bird crap up.

The thing about this is I didn’t want any harm to come to this poor animal. I vowed the night before that I would get it out of my house alive and I eventually did.

Oh, and the first thing I did this morning was hire a guy to put some stuff around my chimney so that this problem won’t happen in the future.

I won the Box Office Mogul game in the league I was in that ran from September 7th to December 3rd. If I wouldn’t have fallen into the trap that was The Heartbreak Kid, I would’ve done much better on my total gross amount. Don’t believe the hype!

Dear Jesus

Filed under: Uncategorized — Scott @ 8:26 pm

Dear Jesus,

I’m normally all about Christmas. I start listening to Christmas music in October usually and get all excited for the holidays. But this year seems different and I don’t know why. I’m not excited. Don’t take it personally though. I’m not good with birthdays so it isn’t because of that. I just feel different. The Christmas spirit doesn’t seem to want to come out and play with me this year. I just now today started listening to Christmas music. I have no decorations up and have had no desire to drive around looking at other’s. I declined particiating in the Tour of Lights judging for no reason at all.

Maybe if I could just buy some time? Could we go back to October maybe? Maybe then your day won’t creep up on me. I only have a few days left to buy gifts for my family, but I have no money to purchase those gifts with. I don’t want to disappoint them. I am going home to visit the weekend before Christmas so that will be fun and awesome. I just hope…

I just see all sorts of bad things happen. Teenage pregnancy is on the rise… I now have two employees that are expecting. They shouldn’t be. One turned 16 only 2 months ago! I lost two employees last week because they were involved with drugs at a party and were detained. Why are they doing drugs? There are more things, but I just don’t understand them all.

Having faith in you keeps me going from day to day. Please look out for all of us, we really need your guidance.

Scott

Customer Control

Filed under: Whistle While You Work — Scott @ 1:50 pm

I know I’ve said it before. The movie studios really control movie availability. That works with two sets of studios: the studio of the movie we want to open and the studio of the movie we want to close to make room for the new movie.

As it turns out, it looks like we won’t be able to play August Rush (a movie I’ve been looking forward to see) because Dan in Real Life did “too well” this last weekend and Disney won’t let us close it to make room. Because August Rush opens this Wednesday, we can’t close Lions for Lambs (even though it’s doing poorly) because we have a 2-week contract. It would need to play until Thursday at least.

I think the Dan in Real Life crowd is the same as the crowd wanting to see August Rush. I wonder had these customers known that, would they have still watched Dan in Real Life?

Sometimes it is better to see a movie when it comes out then waiting a few weeks…

Movies

Filed under: Movies — Scott @ 9:43 pm

I’ve actually been able to watch some movies lately!

Dan in Real Life - I thought it was very good. Some critics say that Steve Carell isn’t very funny. Well, hello, he’s a widower in the movie, but besides that… he’s an actor. He’s acting a role and it just so happens the role is a bit more serious than Steve usually plays. I have to say this is good anyway because I cried. In this day and age it’s so nice to be able to see fathers portrayed as caring about their children. There’s a moment towards the end of the movie that choked me up to the point of no return and I lost it.

American Gangster - Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe… that’s only the start of it. Every single actor/character is amazing in this movie. It never once felt long during it’s 2 hour and 40 minute run time. I especially liked Ruby Dee as Denzel’s Mama. She was amazing. The thing about this movie is that everyone felt so real.

Fred Claus - Call me a freak, but I really liked this movie and will watch it again. It’s a movie that suffers because it’s searching for an identity. The first set of trailers proclaim, “From the people who brought you Wedding Crashers!” Okay, Wedding Crashers is an R-rated Comedy for adults. This is a PG Family film. I wouldn’t recommend very young kids go to it. Let them go watch Bee Movie. At 2 hours, they will be tired of all the family situations. Scott’s Crying Alert - I convusively sobbed once and then teared up a bit after that for another scene. There are many messages in this film, but the one that got me the most is… Naughty or Nice - All children deserve something. Even if it’s not what they actually wanted. They will still be thrilled. If you watch the movie, you’ll know the scene I’m talking about. I get misty eyed just thinking about it again.

Lions for Lambs - First of all, given the subject matter, someone didn’t get the run time right. Political drama/war issues… should be at least 2 hours. This is 90 minutes. I watched it and it’s not really picking sides. Every character seems to represent a different angle of sorts. But, the way it ends… meh. 15 minutes more might have made it a bit more watchable.

Michael Clayton - First of all, it was great. Wonderful acting. The ending scene between George Clooney and Tilda Swinton is nothing short of spectacular. I could watch that scene over and over again. My only gripe is that if this were based on a Grisham novel there would’ve been action. There was a lot of walking/driving quiet time that bothered me a little bit. But that was the only thing. Everything else was great. Tom Wilkinson should be nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

Gone Baby Gone - Dear Ben Affleck, Thank you so much for deciding to try directing. AMAZING!! I’m going to ruin the movie if I talk about it any further than that, but all actors are amazing and Amy Ryan should be nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Casey Affleck should be considered for Best Actor. Just simply amazing!!

Movies I’m really looking forward to see… Enchanted (anyone who knows me will know why) and August Rush.
